FEELS // Self Care at Christmas

// CHRISTMAS //

A WORD THAT FILLS US WITH EXCITEMENT AND FEEL-GOOD FESTIVE VIBES!

But despite this, for some of us it can be easy to burn out.

I mean, for starters it's winter SO germs are rife. But on top of this, Christmas is a time to think of others and we can be that busy doing this, that we forget to look after ourselves...

Having just recovered from woman-flu, I have had time to reflect on my own self-care failings (oh the irony!) and learn from them.

// So here they are, my TOP 3 //

ONE.

Learn to say NO.

This is not me being the Grinch, cos I love a good christmas party as much as the next person but seriously, listen up...

Saying no is necessary sometimes! Don't get me wrong, I get "the guilt" when I turn down an invite or explain to family or friends that I just need a day to myself, but we are not invincible!

This year more than ever before, I have hopefully avoided a total burn out by not saying yes to every single invite.

If you're tired, stressed, under the weather or just not in the right head space then saying no is self-preservation and the people who really love you will understand.

TWO.

Make your life easier.

For example - This year I signed up for AMAZON PRIME in December (no this is not an ad, just a reccomondation from a friend!)

Amazon has already been a life saver and the next day delivery is AMAZ-ing... See what I did there?
When it comes to ordering the bigger things that certain people have put on their Crimbo list, having an Amazon account has helped big time.

As for those extra special and thoughtful pressies, I decided to start my shopping earlier this year and buy from my fave small brands. The whole thing has been so much more enjoyable and I've found some lovely personal gifts for the people I love most.

I've also bought some awesome stocking fillers by popping along to Hull Print Fair, Trinity Market and Humber Street's Christmas Fair as well as shopping online on Esty or through different Makers on Instagram. It has felt good to support small shops at Christmas time and it has proved to me 100%, that despite past experiences, I do not need to spend the week before christmas tearing my hair out in Tkmaxx or fighting someone for the last roll of wrapping paper!

Find yourselves some good shiz online (even better if it has next day delivery) and keep your sanity, as well as your physical health in tact.

THREE.

Don't overdo it.

Resist the urge to stock up as if it's an apocalypse and remember that the shops are only shut for ONE day.

We all want to have those special foods and alcoholic beverages in for the christmas season, but if there's one thing I've learnt from the last couple of years it's that we waste a hell of a lot. So was it really worth to max out my bank account on a mammoth christmas shop?

This year, I did a reckie of everything that's in our cupboards before going mad on the christmas food shop. I have also put some stuff aside for the local food bank rather than chuck it out in order to make room for all our festive favourites...

Trust me, your bank balance will thank you for it, even if the supermarkets don't!
